अन्नपूर्णा

         Anna: Food                       Purna: Complete

In Sanskrit, Annapurna means Full of Food. It is also a title given to the Goddess of food and nourishment. This title was bestowed on my great grandmother, Mary Trivedi, by the people she helped throughout her life. When India was fighting for independence from Britain, many of Gandhi’s followers would hold secret meetings to organize protests and freedom fighting movements. My great grandparents who were freedom fighters would house many of these followers.  My great-grandmother, particularly, who was also a doctor with the Red Cross was known for feeding freedom fighters during these meetings. Even after India’s independence, she continued to help the poor by giving them free medications and food.  She worked tirelessly to aid as many individuals as she could. For her selfless work, she was affectionately called Annapurna! This organization has been inspired by her and her work. We hope to continue her memory and work through the Annapurna foundation by providing aid to as many people as possible as she did.
